Yankee Stadium
Yankee Stadium is a baseball stadium located in the Bronx, New York City. It is the home stadium of the New York Yankees of Major League Baseball, and formerly New York City FC of Major League Soccer. Opened in April 2009, the stadium replaced the historic Yankee Stadium that operated from 1923 to 2008; it is built on the 24-acre former site of Macombs Dam Park, one block north of the original stadium's site. It is the third-largest stadium in Major League Baseball with seating capacity. Although building began in August 2006, the project stretched many years and faced various problems, notably the large public cost and the loss of public parkland. It was founded in 1891 on a 250-acre site that features a landscape with over one million living plants, the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory, a greenhouse with multiple ecosystems, and the LuEsther T. Mertz Library, which houses one of the greatest collections of botany-related materials in the world. As of 2016, more than one million visitors yearly visit the New York Botanical Garden. Interactive programming at the NYBG teaches visitors about plant science, ecology, and healthy eating. The NYBG is also a major educational institution. Children from underserved adjacent towns account for about 90,000 of the annual visitors. An extra 3,000 teachers from the public school system of New York City are enrolled in professional development programs that prepare them to instruct science at all grade levels. NYBG maintains one of the largest plant conservation and research projects in the world. The New York Botanical Garden was founded in 1891, and the first facilities on the grounds opened by the end of the decade.
The Bronx Zoo
The Bronx Zoo is located in Bronx Park in the Bronx borough of New York. It is the largest metropolitan zoo in the United States by area, containing 265 acres of park areas and naturalistic habitats separated by the Bronx River. In 2009, the zoo averaged 2.15 million visits per year. The first permanent structures of the zoo, known as Astor Court, were planned as a collection of Beaux-Arts pavilions clustered around the huge circular sea lion pool. Paul Manship created the Rainey Memorial Gates in 1934, and they were added on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972. On November 8, 1899, the zoo opened with 843 animals in 22 exhibits. William Temple Hornaday served as the organization's initial director for 30 years. The zoo has played an essential role in animal conservation since its inception. The American Bison Society was founded in 1905 in an effort to conserve the species, which had been reduced from tens of millions of animals to barely a few hundred, from extinction. They were successfully reintroduced into the wild two years later.
The Bronx Museum of the Arts
The Bronx Museum of the Arts, usually known as the Bronx Museum of Art or simply the Bronx Museum, is an institution of American culture located in Concourse, Bronx, New York. It has hosted exhibitions of art and design from Latin America, Africa, and Asia. More than 800 paintings, sculptures, photos, and works on paper comprise its permanent collection. The museum is included within the Grand Concourse Historic District.
